ST. EMILION

Since over two years we have been drinking a wine from St. Emilion without ever having visited that epicenter of  French wine or the winery itself.  Since it's only 100 kilometers from Jarnac I finally took the time to visit the winery that makes our favorite wine and of course visit St. Emilion as well.

Chateau Jaugue Blanc is a fairly small winery, but their wine is outstanding. An all natural production, their 2011 Grand Cru garnered a Gold medal at the Paris Fair. Only 7 wines from St. Emilion have received that honor before. The trunk was packed with wine on the way back.

You can read this link http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/932 for all the cultural information about this area, I was just simply impressed that less than 90 minutes from our house where you can find a world class product (Cognac) is an area world famous for it's world class product (wine).

Even though it was a Tuesday in off season the town was bustling with tourists and by the time we had lunch, the town square was packed.  Not surprisingly There were lots of Chinese families, but also Americans and quite a few French tourists around.

Those Petrus prices make me wish I'd saved some of the older stuff. If Chateau Jaugue Blanc is small production, I'm guessing it won't be available Over Here. But I'll keep an eye open for it anyway.
Thanks for the lovely pictures and informative info.

Yes, some of the 1982 bottles would be nice to have around....
I doubt you'll find any Jaugue Blanc over at your side, but when you visit us, I'll have a bottle ready for you.
