LE STUDIO

Day 3 of the the studio renovations. Time for an update. When we first toured the house we ended up buying, the realtor neglected to point out a 35m2 space that is accessible by it's own entrance. It was not until our third visit that he told us about this extra space. Understandably, it was/is a rough space compared to the rest of this house and may have deterred less enthusiastic buyers from the property. Not us.
Extra space, lots of potential, eventually even a rental maybe. Very much to the relief of Le Immobilier, we saw it as a bonus.

The quotes sorted out, the team went at it three days ago, stripping the room to the bare walls and ceiling beams and put in the first of two support beams today.  By doing so, they were able to knock down a double wall and gain some valuable square footage. If you work with a space of this size, every inch counts.
By the time Victoria is done working her magic and overcome her husband's endless rants about how he would do it......it will be well laid out and a nice holiday rental. Still lots of work ahead, however we anticipate to have it all done around Christmas.

This is the first of two spaces we are doing up as rentals, sort of a test geared towards couple travellers who would rather stay at an urban space as compared to families with kids who'd prefer to rent a traditional Gite with garden and pool.
The Ace up our sleeve is oF course Victoria's gluten free baking and cooking. That's the first market we intend to promote this studio towards, with the added value of gluten free breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinners.
Not to mention house hunters and other demographics that may fit the bill.

Never had a chance to comment on
the last post. I'm quite certain
I've read all the ones you have
written since you arrived in
France...even before there was
a (now in France), I think.

Love looking at remodeling
progress photos. Is this space
in back of the storefront?
Looks intriguing.

Like Sheila, I love looking at work in progress and the before and after pictures. It is amazing that the contractor will be finished by Christmas.

That is a lot of reading Sheila! THANK YOU. i am always glad to hear someone is reading the Blog.

Yes it is the space behind the store, we decided to start small and see how we can compete in a Gite market of epic size.

I really feel that the food option is our key to getting traction. 80 million visitors a year in France, so there have to be some Celiacs willing to road trip into the Charente for a while.

Hi Nadege,

yes, we keep pushing hard to complete. Not a rush job though. 35m2 is not that much to complete. The store at almost three times the size would pose more of a challenge.
I am posting an update next Sunday.
