MADE IN CHINA

The final project I was involved in before coming to France, is now installed and it turned out amazing. A custom made, solid wood kitchen, wet bar and bathroom vanity.
I have been offering custom wood work for years, not as a main stay, but if someone was willing to overcome their fear of quality concerns and that stigma that Made in China still has, the results always were and still are stunning.

It was much easier to sell these high end installations in the US, Canadians to put it politely, are much more deliberate in their decision making. As it is a lot of work to oversee the manufacturer and a scared client for a period of three to four month, I did not really chase this side of my import business too hard in Calgary. But nothing is more exciting than to see a one of a kind project come together.

It's too easy attending trade shows overseas and ordering 20 of this, a dozen of that, it's sleep walking really.
But if a client comes to the table with an idea, a plan of something unique, to bring this to a successful end, that is rewarding. Hard work, but rewarding. A lot of hand holding. A lot of emails.
A lot of questions. But then, month after the idea was presented, at the reveal of a dream kitchen, it is all worth the endless emails with repeat questions Will it fit?", or "What if the wood shrinks?"

It does help to have a fantastic network of manufacturers that are not just interested in selling to Home Depot, but have a sense pr pride to do that kind of work.
