Celiacs tend to gravitate towards safe food spots as regular diners keep going back to their preferred restaurants for their favorite dish or dessert. Understandably so, as prevention of being glutened is always on their mind.
It's still a challenge for us here in France, compounded by Victoria's adversity to onions, chives, leeks, etc. Not the end of the world, but a challenge no less. we get a lot of shrugs, or straight "No, c'est pas possible ici". Victoria gets to eat a lot of salads.....
While in Cognac last summer, we did find a bright spot, a restaurant who's staff and owner seem to understand and care enough to listen.
Le Sarment Brulant not only makes a great (regular) Pizza for me, they are happy to prepare Victoria's mussels from scratch. They are only 15 minutes from our house in Jarnac, which in Canadian terms means your neighborhood tavern.
They also have a separate wood fired grill, where they mostly prepare meats and bake their giant potatoes.
Not 100% gluten free as a restaurant, but we returned a number of times and so far all has been fine. the food is very very good, reasonably priced and their desserts are great, including one of the better Chocolate Mousse I had so far.
So when you all come and visit, this is #1 for dining out, when you get tired of eating with us.
